I have a similar setup, but I plug a couple AirLink adapters into 
whatever electrical plugs are available at each end. I don't know 
how isolated the circuits are in your garage/office, so I can't 
guess how well, nor if, it would work for you.

My AS/400, for example, plugs into one of my switches; the switch 
uplinks to an AirLink; another AirLink elsewhere connects to my 
router (a WRT54G); and my router connects to my DSL modem.

I have a couple other AirLinks as well for other areas.

From later comments -- I don't use Skype at home; however, neither 
cell phones nor our wireless land-line phones have caused 
recognizable problems. I don't expect them ever to interfere, though 
I know there's a technical possibility. If I'm not using wireless, 
it's harder for those to be a problem. OTOH, electrical line noise 
would be a different issue -- but that's not been noticed either for me.

Just a possibility.
