Thanks to a tip by a coworker to look at
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/350264/how-can-i-perform-a-reverse-string-search-in-excel-without-using-vba

I have this figured out. With A12 as
/QIBM/ProdData/WebSphere/UpdateInstaller/V61/UPDI/maintenance/6.1.0-WS-WAS-i5osPPC-FP0000023.pak

I can use this formula
=RIGHT(A12,LEN(A12)-FIND("|",SUBSTITUTE(A12,"/","|",LEN(A12)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A12,"/","")))))
to find
6.1.0-WS-WAS-i5osPPC-FP0000023.pak

and
=LEFT(A12,FIND("|",SUBSTITUTE(A12,"/","|",LEN(A12)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A12,"/",""))))-1)
to find
/QIBM/ProdData/WebSphere/UpdateInstaller/V61/UPDI/maintenance
