Chuck,

Interesting question. In looking at our DC's, it would appear that we
have not done a good job of maintaining the license purchases, there are
some warnings in the licensing admin tool. However, this has not
affected the operations of the servers in any way, so I guess the
question becomes whether you are interested in avoiding warnings in the
MS applets, or simply worried about proper operation of the servers?

We do own the proper CALS for our environment, having entered into an
Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft a few years ago. Therefore I am not
really concerned about an audit. My position on Windows CALS for the
BES would be that only the server user really needs one since that
service is what is really accessing the mailboxes.

I am not sure if I really answered your question, but let me know.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks Jim,

So if you have an Exchange Server and have user Windows CALs on there
and install a BES server and have BES CALs on the BES server do you have
to have Windows CALs on the BES server even though the Blackberries are
really access that server ?

Thanks,

Chuck
