Thanks but like I said it's like these fields in Outlook and IE are

Could an foreign-language IME be 'eating' the keystrokes? Try
hammering out a few characters then hitting enter to see if it then
dumps that into whatever field you were in.

Also, it would be nice to know what your Regional/Language settings are.
