Bill,

You might want to consider switching to Ooma. You will no longer have
to have a dedicated PC running, it has it's own unit and depending upon
which unit and plan you purchase, there is not any recurring monthly
charge.

I can second the Ooma recommendation. However, it is now hard to get a unit
with no recurring taxes. Those of us who purchased long enough ago are
grandfathered with no taxes. Then they implemented a fee of under $12 a
*year* to help defray what they became liable for in taxes. And now (most)
new purchases have a monthly charge for taxes.

They honor whatever is written on the box packaging (which they know from
the serial number being activated). But it is probably unlikely you will
still find one in a store that says there are no taxes or fees. The monthly
fees can vary by locale, but I think the most typical charge is around $3.47
per month but they have a calculator available here:

https://www3.ooma.com/tax_calculator.php

Ooma forums have lots of customers who previously used MagicJack and
switched due to poor voice quality, to get rid of the need for an always on
PC, or whatever.
