If your company has a network administrator why were you dealing with it at
all? Also, the existence of WSUS was a critical piece of missing
information.

BTW .. a more likely explanation is that the WSUS server is set to not pass
along updates until they are approved at the console, and no one was
checking the console. Another is that the WSUS server hung (which happens
from time to time), and they weren't paying attention. But the net admin
isn't going to admit to either of those ....
