Pat,

The folder is shared; it shows up in iNav's File Shares panel.

I have tried establishing the map by using both the Syswtem i's name, which
is defined in the HOSTS table, and its specific IP address.

NetServer had never been configured (it still had the Rochester
[RCHwhatever] domain in the domain panel) so I included the (amateurish)
values that I used when I configured it.

Now my thinking (being liberal with the term) is that either
a) I mucked up one of the configuration values for NetServer, or
b) There's something I need to do on the PC.

As regards option (b), I went through the "Add a New Connection" steps, but
didn't see anything that would connect the PC to the System i. My kingdom
for a SysAdmin!

You must create a file share first using Navigator.

Get into Navigator and go to files and open up file shares...

Create one name "root" as an example with a path of "/",
then go back and do your map using something like
\\192.168.10.2\root\home\mapped drive

I'm not able to map a network drive in Windows Explorer to our System i
(V5R1). I had to use the HOSTS table to define the name of the System i
by
its IP address, which works when I use Windows' FTP. This name, also,
works
fine for Client Access.

I've tried defining the folder using this name in the "Map Network Drive"
panel, such as: \\OurSystem\\Jerry (Jerry is a shared folder in the root
directory of the IFS). Couldn't connect. I, also, tried the i's specific
IP address, such as \\123.456.78.901\Jerry. No dice.

Netserver is running, according to iSeries Navigator (V5R4). I went
through
the configuration panels, but not really sure what many (most?) of them
mean.

Current Users panel: Yes

Name Selection panel - Yes, use current name

Description panel - left the default iSeries

Domain panel - I entered MSHOME, which was one of the domains I saw when I
browsed during the Map Network Drive setup.

Logon Support panel - No

Guest Access panel - No

CCSID panel - 0 - Use iSeries NetServer CCSID (the default)

Idle Session Timeout - No 6000 seconds

Browse Announcements - No

WINS panel - No

Start with TCP/IP - Yes

I've never had trouble mapping a System i folder before, but admittedly
the
networks on which I worked before were pretty well set up; this one is so
convoluted that I can't even print from Word to a PC sitting 10' from me,
but I can print to one down the hall. So maybe that's the issue with the
drive mapping.
