Now I have a need to do the same thing BUT - the screen of the Windows
machine needs to be visible to the remote user while I control it.


I have not used it myself, but I think that is the difference between Remote
Desktop and Remote Assistance. Both use port 3389, but Remote Assistance
leaves the local screen and keyboard active. I think it also requires a
user present to accept the connection, whereas RDP can take over an
unattended device.

Remote Assistance must be enabled on the computer, which is a separate
option on the Remote tab of the System Properties panel -- the same place
where you enable the use of RDP, but a different checkbox.
