No real argument from me. I'm on FaceBook but I follow some simple rules:
1. No apps. None. Zip. Zero. My friends have not opted in to allow me to
share their info so I cannot in good faith allow any apps to see that info.
And since granting that access is required for all apps (regardless of what
the app is for) I refuse to use them. Sometimes that sucks as there are
giveaways I'd like to enter but my stance is firm. (Note to Facebook: That
means you don't get any app-derived revenue from me.)
2. Privacy settings. I review them relatively often, like every month or
two. And I set everything to no less strict than "me and my friends".
3. I don't "friend" just anybody. I only friend people I actually know and
am/want to be friends with.
4. No co-workers. FB is personal so while I'll friend former co-workers who
I'm friends with I won't friend anyone I currently work with or who has a
working relationship with my employer. I'm on LinkedIn for those contacts.

Yeah, the FB interface does suck. It reverts from Most Recent (the only
view I use) to Top News at random times. Posts go missing and you never
know it unless you refresh the display. There's no ability to jump to posts
with a certain timestamp, i.e. take me to Tuesday @ 8PM or the last known
time I was logged in.

Also like so many other web sites it simply fails the web test. Pages don't
reformat to fit the width of the window/monitor. I use a 1920x1200 display
with Firefox maximized & FB takes barely more than half the width.

So why do I use it? Initially because most of my friends & family do. Now,
it also serves as an aggregation point for keeping up with news, movies, TV
shows, businesses, etc. I'd switch to another site with no problems if I
got the same or better functionality from it.
