Wifi shouldn't take that much battery power ... even less when it can't actually connect.

Busy day so I'm trying a reader's digest post.

First, the concept I was talking about for loading your own apps is (at least on my phone) a setting in the primary phone settings menu, submenu Applications, setting Unknown sources. Set that puppy and I can install my own apps.

Second, nav programs don't typically eat batteries because of the Nav, but more because of the display. The display is always on and so it burns up electrons.

Finally, you might have a setting that tells you what is using your battery. In my settings menu there is an About phone option and under that a Battery use suboption. Right now, my phone (which has mostly been off for the last six hours, with Wifi off and GPS on) shows 41% display, 37% cell standby, 18% idle and 2% Android system. The display percent is jumping because I'm looking at all the menus and submenus. :)
