I would jump on the support blogs for Thunderbird then. It sounds like a bug. I maintain the mailing list for my wife's restaurant and send out occasional blast emails with Thunderbird with no problem, with three groups of more than 100 each. (I have a very understanding email provider -- me!, well Larry too but I'm certain he does not really care....)

Jim,

I'm on 6.0 as of last weekend.

I don't synchronize the list with any other sources. It's pretty much a
simple means of informing old classmates of events, such as picnics,
reunions, and (sadly) deaths.

I didn't think there was a limit on the number of contacts per group. The
method I use (don't know if there's another way or not) is to bring up the
address book and simply drag and drop a contact into the group. Fortunately
I check the group to make sure that it got added because, while TBird
doesn't, as I said, exhibit any indication that it didn't make the link, the
contact sometimes isn't there.

I used to smoke, but I switched to chewing gum. Boy, is it hard to keep

Jerry,

The answer to your question is, no there is not a limit on how many
(certainly more than 50) contacts can be in a group. My first thought
is to be sure you are running a more current copy of Thunderbird, at
least 5.0, that's what I use. Thunderbird 6.0 does not support the
current version of Lightning, the calendar plug in.

If you are synchronizing your contacts with another source, such as
Google Mail, then the synchronization program may be the problem because
the update on the other end does not work. I have had that happen
several times.
