Hi Luke,

I got involved in choosing a new phone system for my daughters' school.  
The system they got is called PBXact, and is based on Asterisk.  There 
are other systems out there also based on Asterisk -- TrixBox, and 
others whose names I've forgotten.

One thing to be aware of is that the phones that work with these digital 
PBXs are actually computers.  When a phone is powered up, it will 
download customization "scripts" for its programmable keys  from 
Aasterisk.  PBX vendors do not support all phones out there.  The school 
got Aastra phones which are relatively cheap, but now that they want to 
switch PBX vendors, we've found that the phones don't play well with 
other systems.

I downloaded the free version of Trixbox (from trixbox.org) and 
installed it on a spare PC, but haven't had time to play with it yet.
