I should add that I seen a horror story about CrashPlan a couple weeks back
My personal experience is so far limited to just learning about them,
installing the trial on one machine, and seeding about 60GB to see how
it behaves.
I would never want to use a cloud backup as my only (or even primary)
backup strategy. It takes way too long to restore -- even if you have
them overnight you a drive you are waiting until the next day.
I consider it just one more safety net which is farther offsite (in
case of a severe natural disaster), and another way to access files
when on the road. And with unlimited storage for up to 10 machines at
$10/month, it seems very easy to justify as one more belt and
suspender contingency.
I got about 1.3GB/hour upload on my initial seeding, but that will all
be ISP bandwidth dependent.
