Use "Darik's Burn and Nuke" --> http://www.dban.org/

Download the utility, create a bootable CD, and boot to it. It will "clean"
the hard drive.

Good morning list!

My friend has an old Desktop COMPAQ Presario that he wants to sell /
donate. He wants to wipe out any personal data from it. It has Windows XP
in it but he has no CDs. I have tried to use the F10 function (System
Recovery) and seem that is not getting activated and I have tried several
free programs to try to format the hard drive but I have not found "the
one" yet.

Can you guide me to the right path about how to initialize / format the
hard drive?

Thanks in advance!
