Our cable provider supplies us with Motorola surfboard modems that come
with a battery backup so the modem has power in the event of a power loss.
But it only provides power to their voice line so that in the event of a
power outage, you can use your land line - but only if you have and use
their VOIP service. I'm not sure why the data service doesn't work during
an outage. Just thought I'd share that tidbit.
