I have an Orbi and I never get more than 90mbps wireless on any device.
Wired I can get 800-900. I tried the google mesh but it was weird that all
of the configurations were stored in the cloud. I think most of them are
going that way though.

So, you do not necessarily have to "shop for a mesh router" per se --
those usually carry a price premium.
