You might try running Disk Management to get a look at what Windows sees about it. For a quick look you could also just open Explorer and look at the properties of the disk. If formatting it is an option that may be the quickest and easiest solution.

This quarterly go round I reached the 4th desktop and it failed saying
there wasn't enough space on the disk. I always delete the old one I am

I deleted all the images from the end of June and there's still only 38gb
available. It reports this on 3 desktops, including mine.
Any idea what is wrong? Do I need to do a quick format? Is it failing?
I'm currently running a CHKDSK on it which will most likely take all day to
complete.
