I define a single field on the subfile and then build that string in my
program. I use the various BIFs to do this, so I don't need any data
structures. Using this technique has become a "peice of cake" with
RPG/ILE.

Error 20 is pretty generic. Since you say the file is Input/Add, I assume
that you have an input type operation against this file (i.e. READ, CHAIN,
etc.).
