Help,
I am working on a sockets client application that needs to connect to a
remote host. The program is called passing the TPC/IP address in dotted
form as well as the port to connect to.
I am having trouble translating the dotted TCP/IP address to a four byte
binary address. The function in am trying to use is :
(from the AS400 V3R7 online library manual for sockets programming)
Document Number SC41-4422-01
3.2.25 inet_addr()--Translate Full Address to 32-bit IP Address
The inet_addr() function is used to translate an Internet address from
dotted decimal
format to a 32-bit IP address.
Parameters
address_string
(Input) The Internet address in dotted decimal format that is to be
converted to a
32-bit IP address.
Return Value
inet_addr() returns an integer. Possible values are:
-1 (unsuccessful)
n (where n is the 32-bit IP address)
Usage Notes
1. Notation of the dotted decimal address string can be in one of seven
formats:
Format 1 - a.b.c.d
Format 2 - a.b.c.
Format 3 - a.b.c
Format 4 - a.b.
Format 5 - a.b
Format 6 - a.
Format 7 - a
My RPG is as follows:
D InetAddr PR 10u 0 ExtProc('inet_addr')
D SocketId 15A Value
*
D serveraddr DS
D sin_family 5i 0
D sin_port 5u 0
D sin_addr 10u 0
D sin_addrA 4a OVERLAY(sin_addr)
D sin_zero 8a
*
C *Entry PLIST
C PARM TcpAddr 15
C PARM TcpPort 4
*
C EVAL sin_addr = inetaddr(TcpAddr)
remote server addr
where TcpAddr is passed as follows: '10.9.8.2 '
I have tried '010.009.008.002' as well. Each time I end up with sin_addr =
0 and my connection being with the same as400 as I am running the program
on.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
