Michael,

I agree with Scotts assessment and also sympathize with your
dislike of using the mouse. I don't believe that I use the mouse
any more in Code/400 than I do in SEU, but I had to learn the
keyboard shortcuts and attach some functions to keys. To this
day I find new shortcuts that I wish I would have know about.

As I said I use code daily. It will not crash very often if you use NT.
Unless you need to play games, Windows NT is the way to go.
You can configure the editor to do whatever you want. If you don't
want to use the mouse create shortcuts. I have quite a few I use. One
set will cut, copy, or paste the current line containing my cursor if no
text is currently selected by pressing <ctrl> c/x/v. When I press
enter in the middle of a free format expression, I have it split the
current line, add the "C", "D" and position the cursor in column 7.
That's how I like to do it because it saves me keystrokes. More and
more Code/400 macros are popping up on various web pages. I
would encourage anyone using Code/400 to try some of them out.

I have not yet hit a limit on how many windows I can have open,
right now I have 10 source members open. That is typical. I use the
ring manager if I really want to organize what I am working on.

It may slow you down at first but it should get esier to use the
more you use. Right now after using it for about 5 yrs, I highly
dislike it when I use SEU. I use SEU for quick fixes and broswing.
Any indept changes are done with CODE/400. You should be able to
open as many CODE/400 sessions that your PC memory will allow.
For most things you should not NEED to use the mouse. Most
of the stuff you click on has a key combination also. So, you
should be able to do a large portion of your coding without
ever using the mouse. Also, in CODE/400 the TAB key actually
works. It will tab based on the spec you are using.

You also have to go beyond the quickness issue and look at all
the other tools you get with CODE/400. Verifying, Indenting,
Color coding, Navigator(flowchart of your pgm), DSU(GUI designer
for DSPF, PRTF, PF, & LF), easily changed to your wants and desires,
graphically compare two sources, you can find the Endif of an IF,
column specific help, RPG manual a key click away, a great debugger,
and .....

I could go on and on, but I won't. It has A LOT of features besides
just editing source. I highly recommend it to anybody. As far as
crashing your PC, how many times does WindowsXX crash on you. I
crash more in Windows95 than I do in CODE/400.
