Hey, Haven't you seen a lot of RPGII code? They use of # and @ is field names are everywhere! No offense to anyone, but in an RPG IV program this would be a very amaturistic technique. Granted the 6-position field name limit RPG II/III caused some pretty creative programming activity, but we don't have name length limits anymore. If you really need to use #, perhaps we should require that all opcode names begin with @ and all field names begin with # that way procedure names could begin with any other symbol, and built-in functions would begin with %. Hans would be able to write the CF-spec stuff parser even faster. Hey, why not just port the Spreadsheet language (ala VisiCalc) to the AA/400 and call it RPG IV with CF-specs. :) Bob Cozzi http://www.RPGIV.com > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-rpg400-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-rpg400-l@midrange.com]On > Behalf Of McCallion, Martin > Sent: Thursday, August 12, 1999 4:55 AM > To: 'RPG400-L@midrange.com' > Subject: RE: CF-Spec - another call for opinions > > > I'd like to add my vote for option 2, and agree that dropping the > requirement for 'CF' would be good. > > As an aside, some people suggested using '@' as a delimiter: it's always > best to avoid using '@', as it's not in the invariant character set. > This means that if you load your code onto a machine with a different > CCSID, you can get all sort of distressing syntax and/or compile errors. > > This can be quite a problem when you do client-specific customisation to > a package, and have clients all over the world. > > Regards, > > Martin. > -- > Martin McCallion > Midas-Kapiti International > Work: mccallim@midas-kapiti.com > Home: martin.mccallion@ukonline.co.uk > > Company policy says: > This email message is intended for the named recipient only.
