     Hmm.  Fair point, but...
     
     If I were to make a _code snippet_ available, as in a reply to a 
     question on this list or c.s.i.a.m., I would give it freely and 
     without restrictions (like Doug's "extract" solution - nice one 
     Doug!).  Make a million, ignore it, I don't care.
     
     On the other hand, if I come up with a really cool source markup 
     utility (to take an example mentioned earlier), I don't want to 
     publish it FOC, then have someone else change two lines, copyright it, 
     make money from it, and thereby prevent me from enhancing my own 
     original product.  That's what GPL is for.
     
     If I were to publish code (and I fully intend to - if I ever get 
     time), snippets will be published with an "as-is" disclaimer, and no 
     strings.  Full working utilities will be GPL'd.  This should pose no 
     problems - if I publish a GPL service program, that program can be 
     bundled with a commercial application, as long as the code isn't 
     actually incorporated (and thereby copyrighted) into the application 
     code.  I think.

I don't' think we want to do that, Paul.  If I use someone's code snippet 
in a program I write, I want to be able to turn around and sell that 
program.  Well, right now I'm working for another company, and we
are using everything in house, but others may want to sell their programs.
     
I have no objection to giving someone some code, they include it in 
a program, then make a million dollars off it, more power to them.
     
What I think we are talking about here is making everyone's life 
a lot easier by making us all reinvent the wheel.
     
The GPL license says that if you use that code in your program, you 
can not then sell your program.
