The idea hasn't been publically discounted, at least not until
now.
We have something else in mind for those names. For example:
newdate = olddate - %years(1) + %days(17)
as an expression alternative to SUBDUR and ADDDUR. To
overload the names with EXTRCT functionality would, IMHO, be
too confusing.
BTW, we're also thinking of allowing expressions like:
timestamp = date + time
time = %time(timestamp)
date = %date(timestamp)
dur = %diff(date1:date2:*years)
eurstr = %char(date:*eur)
date = %date(str:*dmy)
etc.
