Vijosh, Basically this is a planned IBM procedure once a certain level of utilisation has been exceeded. The AS/400 goes into a highly restricted state so that it's core functions are the only functions using disk space. The disk threshold monitor checks the utilisation and compares it to the threshold you have set using SST. The default is 90% and IMO this should be left as is. When this has been exceeded a message will come up on the system console every few minutes warning of this fact. This message must not be ignored because some features have already been disabled at this stage. (SNA distribution services etc.) At that point it is prudent to get all users off the machine and try to get space from somewhere (delete old files etc.) so that your month end can continue. Sorry, it's a bit of a long answer. The short version is..no there is nothing you can do short of an IPL but you should have mechanisms or procedures in place to prevent this from happening. You can change the threshold to 99% to enable to complete a few tasks but I really wouldn't recommend it as you may start to have failures. Hi folks, Last day I faced a strange situation. During month end processing the AS400 suddenly stopped responding. No commands would work. On further investigation the m/c status showed that, it was running on 98% ASP utilisation. Ultimately an IPL had to be done because nothing worked. After the IPL we could delete and clean up space. Has anybody faced such a problem? In such situations what needs to be done for a clean up without an IPL? Vijosh A Systems & Software SEEPZ, Bombay, INDIA.
