Thom, you've probably run into one of the more horrid "features"
of RPG: if you initialize (INZ keyword) for the DS or subfields,
it will be initialized to blanks (x'40') (even the numeric
subfields).  If you use numeric subfields before giving them
a value, you'll get decimal data error.
