Sorry if this sounds rude, but the help says it all.

It is not automatic that everyone wants to see the date as xx/xx/xx.
Someone might want to see
xx.xx.xx, or
xx,xx,xx or
xx xx xx

As the help text says, this lets you choose what separator to use.  In the
above 3 cases, the character to use in this option would be . , and &.  The
& is necessary because leaving the option blank gives a /.

Subject:  Question about the H-spec...





     In the H-spec for RPG/400, there's an entry for Date Edit.  Does
     anyone know what this if for and where would I see the effects from
     using it???  The help text doesn't day much.
                          Date Edit - Help
     Choose from the following:
     Any character
         Type the character you want used as a separator
         character between fields of the date.
     &
         Type & if you want a blank used as a separator
         character.
                                                         Bottom
     F2=Extended help   F10=Move to top       F11=Search Index
     F12=Cancel   F13=Information Assistant   F24=More keys
