David, Mike Thanks for your responses on this, they helped a great deal Colin Thorpe .............Snip.......................... Multi-member files can get v. complex - especially in conjunction with logical files (and multi-format logicals !). You must remember that the member contains the data. A logical file member can link to any member of a physical file - you must specify at creation time how you want the links to work. A logical member can point at from 1 to 32 members in a physical (or several physicals, in the case of multi-format and join logicals). The DTAMBRS parameter defaults to *ALL, which means if you create a logical file over a multi-member physical with the defaults, the logical file will contain one member (as Mike noted above) which is scoped over all of the physical members, or over (I think it's the first) 32 if there are too many. I've been burned by this one several times. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
