Progen does what it says it does. Its easy to produce your first results
and there is plenty of learning room left for you to develop some very
complicated scenarios.

It doesn't handle date or time fields well although if you are using
numeric date fields it converts those easily and gracefully for screens
and reports.

If you are going to use it, make a rule right at the beginning that you
will not modify a program manually or add code at the user-code points. It
works but its a hassle. You can build small programs and link them easily
so stay away from modifying the Progen code.

I've found Progen to be most useful in this way: Every file gets an
immediate flat panel subfile maintenance program including validations, a
callable window look-up program, and a callable 1-record maintenance
window or panel depending on record size.

I consider Progen a great tool but it is not Charlie The Wonder Dog. It
does a lot, but not everything.

The Java piece is a work-in-progress. If you are going the Java route
this may interest you but its not a finished piece yet.

Other people have mentioned Progen's staff. These folks are super. They
answer their own phones, they walk you through difficulties, and they know
their product.
