text entry widget?

Hi folks,
        Does anyone know of a text entry widget that I can plug into rpg
programs, much like gtk of motif?  I want to insert and delete text.  I
want to be able to place the widget in a specified are of the screen.  It
needs to have callbacks that can interface with my rpg programs.
