Along with the other comments, I would just add that in RPG-III / RPG-400, if
your file input is blocked, the RRN you retrieve from the INFDS may not be the
record you are currently processing.  A simple example:  An input file is
blocked 8 records at a time.  When you read the first 8 records in the file
sequentially, the RRN will likely be 1 for each of those reads.  This is not a
problem for files opened for update, since they are not blocked.

Also, RPG-IV does NOT have this problem; RRN from the INFDS is always accurate
in RPG-IV.
