Maybe I misunderstood you. You wrote:

To me that means you have one program with an interactive portion and a
batch portion. Since the batch portion won't be executed during the
interactive job and vice versa you should have a separate interactive
program and a separate batch program. Then there wouldn't be any need to
check.

applications today use several programs to do their task. The days
of the
monolithic 400 and 500 (and sometimes even larger!) line programs

dead, thank goodness.
Also I've been told repeatedly that QTEMP travels with the submitted
job.
Is this is not true? Did I hear wrongly?
