Here is an example using RPG III:
PARMC
PGM
DCL &DECIMAL *DEC (3 0) VALUE(1)
CALL PARMR &DECIMAL
ENDPGM
PARMR
C *ENTRY PLIST
C PARM NUMBER 30
C ADD 1 NUMBER
C NUMBER DSPLY
C SETON LR
It doesn't use a display file, but it will work just the same if the CL had
a DSPF. It also works the same using RPG IV. Numeric variables will be
passed properly. I have been using these examples from the S/38 days. I
wish I didn't have to.
Here's a rhetorical question: Why would an advanced architecture like the
S/38 (now AS/400) have features like hardware tag bits yet not allow
programs to pass numbers back and forth?
