Looks like RPGIII. The immediate problem is the decimal places in the definition of WEEKS. You need to get rid of them and make it a character field. You might also consider an externally defined data structure on the file record format and overlaying your program defined array on it. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Hepplewhite [mailto:phepplewhite@madasafish.com] Sent: Friday, October 27, 2000 3:34 PM To: RPG400-L@midrange.com Subject: array data structure prob i am using an array with 52 elements which will hold quantities needed for each week of the year... these will be populated by reading a file finding the week no and quantity by product number once all records for one product number have been read i will write a record to a file which when all the records have been read will then be transferred from a temporary phys file to a spreadsheet on a pc.. the array is 11 numeric and 3 dec places i am trying the following... to move the values from each element of the array to the corresponding files in the temporary file f1 op f2 MOVEA ARA WEEKS ( in E specs ARA 52 11 3 ) weeks is a data structure for the field names that i want to fill with the right quantities i.e DS 1 572 3 WEEKS 1 11 3 WK1 (fields in the to file) 1 2 22 3 WK2 ( ) 2 3 33 3 WK3..... etc for 52 when i try to compile i get error stating that array and ds are not the same type and length and i wondered if someone knows a way of populating the fields basically using the method above hope someone can help cheers paul +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
