RE: Program editors

message - I still don't have Steve's question.)

For the last 15 months (since I've been here at Spartan) I've been using
Code/400.  Before that I used Flex/Edit for many years, going back to
Picante's original DOS version of the product.  Code is pretty good,
although IBM's LPEX editor that Code uses is not quite as good as the
CodeWright editor that Flex is based on.  I've been using PC editors for so
long that I hate to even browse source members with SEU - I'm so used to the
color-coding and productivity aids that it drives me nuts when I don't have
them.  (And yes, I'm aware that it's just a short drive. ;)

For me, Code's biggest advantage over Flex is the CL and CMD prompting.
Flex's biggest advantage over Code is the opcode-aware dynamic RPG
prompting.  (Note to Jim: Both Code and Flex fully support RPG II, better
than SEU does, IMHO.)  Code is easier than Flex to customize, because it can
use Rexx macro and Java program add-ins.  Flex requires writing .DLL's for
most non-trivial enhancements, although there are more customizations that
can be made in Flex without writing anything.

I use SEU.  Exclusively.  

Mainly because I still have to maintain some RPG II code and there is no
justifiable reason to bring it to RPG IV or even RPG III.  

The second reason, it's free.
