If you are referring to adding more fields to a physical file that has data, 
you can do a:

 CHGPF FILE(yourlib/yourfile) SRCFILE(pfsourcelib/pfsourcefile) SRCMBR(pfmember)

Where <pfmember> is the DDS source of your updated PF. You won't loose the data 
in your PF as long as you don't rename existing field names.
