If you know the qualified job name or its internal job ID have a look at the 
Retrieve Job Status (QWCRJBST) API.  You will need to grant *PUBLIC *USE 
rights to the API.

If you don't know the full job name then use either the List Job (QUSLJOB) API 
or the Open List of Jobs (QGYOLJOB) API.  If you avoid format 0200 then you 
don't need *JOBCTL.
