Gee - sorry i offered an opinion. Thanks for the attack.
btw, it was not a statement at a seminar,
but a fairly long discussion with the lads in Rochester.
if you read my original posting in full, you would see i made mention of a
minor point
about the file being volitile. that would translate to a situation like:-
If it is a high volume transaction file being accessed by numerous programs
in update/add/delete mode
the whole time, then, no i would not recommend using a 'Reuse Delete" file
as acceptable.
If it were a fairly low volume transaction rate file, then yes - I would
think it acceptable.
There are also some other situations that might make it acceptable - but,
you obviously know that sir.
I also made a point of saying that I had not followed the thread of the
emails discussing this situation,
so - if it is a situation that would make it acceptable to use "Reuse
Deleted records" -
i thought i had excused myself by that disclaimer.
but. i obviously bow to the superior knowledge previously expressed in the
response to my posting,
and will think twice before offering an opinion.
btw. I would hope you spend more time fact gathering than making
assumptions when developing applications.
like:-
If I had a 100 million record file, I would consider the
impact. Just as
Mr. Turner(who I know and respect) should consider the impact of
generalized statements at seminars to people who think it applies
"Everywhere, everytime situations"
I do not think it was necessary to put down a specialist like Rick during
your *rants*
i must thank you for stopping short of actually calling me an idiot,
although the insinuation is there.
just my humble opinion.
