One trick I use is to use a field initialised with X'07' (Single quote):
D Qte s 1 inz(x'7D')
when building strings I just add it into the string where I need it:
c eval cmd = 'ADDPFM FILE(QTEMP/SEPSRC)'
c + ' MBR(' + Member + ')'
c + ' TEXT('+ Qte + TEXT + Qte + ')'
c + ' SRCTYPE(' + TYPE + ')'
c exsr CmdExec
IMO makes it a little easier to read.
Subroutine CMDEXEC does the business.
c cmdexec BEGSR
c eval CMDLEN = %len(%trimr(CMD))
c CALL(E) 'QCMDEXC'
c PARM CMD 1024
c PARM CMDLEN 15 5
c ENDSR
