Yes, but you missed the point in which I also pass this back to the program
which called me. For example I want to send back a message id USR0001, I
set that value. Now I need to call an API. Now I take the return back
from that API and update other subfields in my first error structure.
Or another example. I call an API to perform some function. The error
structure returns an error. I decide to handle this one using the message
handling API's, which have their own error structure. I don't want to have
to move everything out of one structure to a holding area just to say I am
only using one error structure. The qualified method is like using %found
versus %found(myfile). More than two lines of code past point of origin,
it still makes sense.

Couldn't you just use the same DS for calling different APIs? That's what
I
do. Check the error after the call, then you don't need it any more.
