Kathie, Your story is way to common , regretfully one can bring a lot to the table only to have it refused by the client or shop standard..... I have several RPGIV, ILE, SQL, etc. books that I will absorb, even JAVA and HTML are on my list of things to do, and on my bookshelf. I have gone to seminars, and read numerous articles. I have never been 'allowed' to use current technology at any client or employer. Forced was a poor choice of words on my part. I should have said, I hope I get the opportunity to use the latest and greatest, at a real client, on a real system, soon! Your place sounds like a great opportunity for that consultant. I am currently rewriting an old icky system into a better old icky system at the clients demand. When I am finished, I intend to rewrite the whole thing again on my Timeshare account, this time making my self use the latest and greatest, on my own time, on my own dime, and show it to him again. I hope this experience with bring me up to the current standards of programming. I know I need to upgrade and make current my skill set. I was just pouting out loud. I got something out of Bucks message that he did not intend to say, and we have exchanged a few very encouraging emails chatting the whole thing out. Things are well with the world again.... I feel a person in our business should always be looking for better and easier ways to accomplish things. I really really really do hope I get forced into using the newest, latest and greatest some day! The sooner the better! I don't believe, especially for consultants, that you have the choice anymore to use or not use ILE, it's going to be forced on you when you run into it. Just as C programmers who maintain other's code are forced to learn OOPs and program in C++. I just hope I am never forced to learn C#. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- ----------------------- Headers -------------------------------- Return-Path: <rpg400-l-owner@midrange.com> Received: from rly-yg03.mx.aol.com (rly-yg03.mail.aol.com [172.18.147.3]) by air-yg02.mail.aol.com (v79.27) with ESMTP id MAILINYG28-0711143042; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 14:30:42 -0400 Received: from uucphost.mcs.net (uucp1.mcs.net [192.160.127.93]) by rly-yg03.mx.aol.com (v79.20) with ESMTP id MAILRELAYINYG33-0711143014; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 14:30:14 -0400 Received: (from uucp@localhost) by uucphost.mcs.net (8.11.3/8.11.1) with UUCP id f6BIT3C83962; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 13:29:03 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from rpg400-l-owner@midrange.com) Received: from localhost (mail@localhost) by linux.midrange.com (8.11.2/linuxconf) with SMTP id f6BHon202500; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 12:50:49 -0500 Received: by linux.midrange.com (bulk_mailer v1.13); Wed, 11 Jul 2001 12:50:43 -0500 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by linux.midrange.com (8.11.2/linuxconf) id f6BHoQ802257 for rpg400-l-outgoing; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 12:50:26 -0500 Received: (from uucp@localhost) by linux.midrange.com (8.11.2/linuxconf) with UUCP id f6BHoIF02205 for RPG400-L@midrange.com; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 12:50:18 -0500 Received: from S1028570.HANOVERWIRE.COM ([12.108.116.100]) by uucphost.mcs.net (8.11.3/8.11.1) with ESMTP id f6BHkAc76672 for <RPG400-L@midrange.com>; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 12:46:10 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from MWalter@hanoverwire.com) Subject: RE: What are the benefits of ILE?
