There is a companion tool called EDTFLDMAP that lets you specify formatting rules for a particular file. This rules file (like your XXXFIELDS) is read in conjunction with the input file (like your XXX data) and for each field (generally holding date values) in the rules file I extract the matching value from the current record in input data file. Once I've processed all the fields mentioned in the rules file I move on to the next record in the input file. I actually process all field from the input file, but only do special formatting for those mentioned in the rules file. Feel free to take this off list if you think it's getting too detailed for others to be interested, but at least it's on topic as my routines are all RPG(LE) ;-) Regards, Martin -- martin@dbg400.net / jamaro@firstlinux.net http://www.dbg400.net DBG/400 - DataBase Generation utilities Open Source test environment tools for the AS/400 / iSeries and miscellaneous database & spooled file management commands. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
