Unfortunately, it was designed for dumb green screens. Newer colour terminals (including emulators) tend to interpret DSPATR(BL) as the colour red. If you want the colour terminal to blink the red field, try DSPATR(HI BL). If this answer doesn't really help, consider posting to MIDRANGE-L. You'll find a broader experience base over there.
