Rajiniganth, if you define an externally-described data structure using your file, then all the fields in your file will be in that data structure at the same positions you determined from DSPOBJD. After a read, you can then substring the data structure using the buffer positions you obtained using DSPOBJD. If you are using a program-described file, then just code a data structure in the result field of your READ operation, and substring that data structure. Barbara Morris
