If you're not using POST (which will overwrite this section) then are you
doing any I/O?  I mean to say that the INFDS is only filled after I/O
occurs.  Before that, it's initialised (like all data structures) to *BLANK
(x'40').

I agree with what you say, and since I'm doing no posts (just using this
with printer exception output) I can see it being initialized to blanks.  I
never had to worry about initializing the subfield when using RPG III.  Once
more, if I try to initialize the subfield, I get a compiler error!  I can't
win.
