RPG function.

I need to apply a function to a number selected with SQL that will
return a character field (preferably varchar)

something like:

SELECT function(num) from table...

I found in the manual how to CREATE FUNCTION...  but I'm missing the
info on the way the RPG will receive the numeric parameter and return
the char.

Can you give me a sample, or point me to the right manual?
