If you just need it for the one program you could try imbedded SQL.  Have
you handled that animal yet?

Here is a logical (without any of the joining) that may work:
                                            UNIQUE
                R DANR                      PFILE(ROB1)
                  FLD1           6A  I      SST(F00001 1)

                  FLD3          93A  I      SST(F00001 8)
                K FLD1

Caution, notice the 'I'?  Input only.

Geez, how did I ever manage to spend seven years of my career on a S/36?
Must be spoiled. <sigh>

When you say "a permanent view, like a logical file", I only need it for
the
job that creates it.  Or is it even not that permanent?

But if you are wanting to create a permanent view, like a logical file -
you can't.
