Buck,
I would assume that the sub-file application is a terminal
application and the users are going to be online. So, I would take your
approach one step less and just produce a report and then show it do them
using DSPSPLF command. That can be done without purchasing a SPL to PDF
converter and then a AS/400 email tool (freeware maybe available).
But the recommendation I would make is to just rewrite the sub-file
application into a page at a time, since additional work will have to be put
into the program to display additional records. I have seen examples of
using embedded SQL to make it easier to load sub-file pages. That approach
also allows the user to resort data presented to them.

Print a report, convert it to PDF and email the user. The point I am trying
to make is that any alternative to a page at a time subfile is going to be a
lot of work. If you want to go through a lot of work, you might as well use
some new techniques and enhance the application.
