Again I recommend reading the book "SQL/400 Developer's Guide" by Paul
Conte and Mike Cravitz.

Sample code from that book:

     C/Exec SQL

This was written in V4R5.  I would have used free format :-)
Also using constants for stuff like '00000' can enhance readability.
