The OPM like DFTACTGRP does not support subprocedures so you must specify
an ILE activation group. More excitement to come!

I think I stumbled on the solution.  I removed all of the VALUE
keywords I had, and now the program works like the original with the
subroutine.  Did removing the VALUE keywords tell the app to use the
same address for the field in both the main module and the
subprocedure?

Silly question:  Why must this be compiled with DFTACTGRP(*NO)?
