Oops.  I don't need the file spec in the calling procedure.  That's kind of
the point of the whole thing - the file spec is only in the called
procedure.  Sorry for any confusion.

And the fact that the item data happens to use the same structure as the
item file is purely for convenience, and certainly doesn't have to be the
case.
